Hi,
here benchmark 3D GL Quake3 in MorphOS, AmigaOS, Apple OSX, using Pegasos2 G4, Mac Mini G4, AmigaOne XE, Sam e Sam Flex, Powerbook G4, EMac G4, PowerMac G4 Quicksilver, PowerMac G4 FW800, PowerMac G4 AGP Graphics 'Sawtooth', PowerMac G5 :) in single and dual CPU, and with many graphic cards :)

Quote: Mac Mini G4 MorphOS 2.4: 640x480 63,1 fps
Mac Mini G4 Apple OSX Leopard 10.5.8: 640x480 112,6 fps
Um... Why that bloated commercial operating system makes the same things twice as fast on the same computer!?

@jcmarcos simple, because at the moment driver 3D is better in OSX ppc then MOS, and better in MOS then OS4.

@jcmarcos
I see the answer to your question in your own post.

@Divinity
The problem is you compare Quake3 on MorphOS against IOQuake3 on OSX. You can't really know what optimisations they brought to IOQuake3.
So, the test would be more meaningful if you tested the original Quake3 client on OSX.

@Fab Hi Fab :)
right, but the idea is to see also the benchmark in many host Macintosh in OSX ppc (many of these could be supported by MorphOS in the future).
Where Can I find the original Quake3 client for OSX ?
I thinks also It's a very good result for MorphOS at the moment VS OS4.x
thanks regards | |

I refuse to believe that there are better programmers than the MorphOS Team!

@all
ok, updated with other original Q3 client in OSX :)

It would be interesting if the original Quake3 client (http://www.macgamefiles.com/detail.php?item=17355) could be tested on the same Mac mini MorphOS runs on, for a clear comparison.
But anyway, seeing that figure of 90fps with original Quake3 client vs 168fps for IOQuake3, it's clear that IOQuake3 was optimized (or stripped down?) in a way or another.

I would wait for a new 3D drivers from BigFoot and then compare :)

Comparison to OS X is pretty pointless currently because it is not just related to missing optimizing in the MorphOS driver but also to the missing AGP transfer acceleration so far. You could gain quite a bit by using that (additionally to other techniques not exposed in the current public MorphOS drivers yet). It is totally unrelated to "better programmers" definitely .... You can take for granted as well that this "bloated commercial operating system" got far better first level support by ATI/AMD than MorphOS did, so what MorphOS 3D drivers achieved is quite remarkable IMHO.... Time will show when AGP acceleration is added to MorphOS drivers. With the increasing Mac Hardware MorphOS userbase, it's very likely to happen in the future ....

Good info to know about possible MorphOS2.x enhancements pega-1.
Thanks. | |

@pega-1 Comparison in OSX is only to test many Apple Macintosh PowerPC between themselves because many of them are (or will be) supported in MorphOS I'm very happy to use everydays MorphOS and sure I'll register an other key when relased MorphOS 2.6 for my PowerMac Dual G4 FW800 Interesting news, I'm waiting the new minor relase of MorphOS.
regards

I refuse to believe that too. Oh well, you're part of the Team... Me enters space/time paradox now. Waaaaaarrrp!
(I wonder at my own attempts at being even weirder than Osco )

Indeed! Now looping myself to my first quote.

@pega-1 Do you plan to add some new games 3D (better the Quake3) now that We'll have more powerful hardware compatible with MorphOS ? thanks regards

now also PowerMac AGP Graphics 'Sawtooth' G4@400 with 1280Mb ram and ATI Radeon 9250 128bit AGP.
