Pavel Fedin, author of MosNet, MOS floppy disk driver and other goodies is working on BootX, a modified Darwin Kernel that could allow your Pegasos to boot MacOS X directly without the need of MOL. Unlike MOL this would allow us to use 3D gfx cards directly and use OSX to the maximum.

If I remember correctly BBRV offered years ago 2000$ to the first person who made OSX boot natively on Pegasos.

I think that it may be a good idea to start a bounty for this. 2000$+ the donations of MorphZone members would surely motivate Pavel to continue working in this wonderful project.

This could help to make our Pegasos2 more useful. What do you think about this project?

@Thargan:

What's up with MorphBounties? is it possible to create new bounties?

Please note the "Morph" in "MorphBounties." What you are proposing has no relation to MorphOS whatsoever. Feel free to suggest a bounty system on other community websites which are not focused on a specific OS.

Also, there are legal implications for a bounty like this which MorphZone should not get into without a very good reason. That said, it is a nice project nonetheless.

i agree, it has nothing to do with morphos and the legal issues are too important to be ignored. It can only remain a hobby project, but u can still make a donation to Sonic direclty i suppose.

@JoBBo

You are probably right (specially about the legal problems for MorphZone).

Maybe it would be enough if BBRV confirmed us that their offer of 2000$ is still valid so Pavel Fedin could continue working on it.

Hey, be warned, this is an experimental project. This means that the success is not 100% guaranteed.

If you'd paid for the OS you could even stick it in the dish washer :-P

What are the legal issues? just to know, I don't know even what kind of license MacOS have... Is there any kind of legal issue in trying to run MacOS in anything that is not a mac?

This is a very interesting project indeed. I would love to use bootx, if it would provide better hw support than mol. Usable, working sound and 3d is really missing at the moment, and it's not so comfortable to boot linux kernel and mol every time you want to use osx (even if it's a molk or pegxmac). The overall osx speed feels much slower compared to g4 macs, as without 3d support the gui is quite slow.

Let us know any news about BootX. How is it going? ;)

I'm here...
Paused in favor of a small commercial project. This project involves 1284parallel.device development so it's top priority now. However this also involved finishing a LED dongle to be used as debug tool. :)
