Hello, I own a Commodore A1200 with Blizzard PPC 68040/25MHz and 603e/175MHz, 256MB, BVision on a 16:9 VGA LCD screen, 10GB HD with OS3.9 on 2GB partition, slim CDROM. After having installed the OS4.0, and having found out, IMHO, that is worst than the 3.9, I have decided to test the free MorphOS 1.4.5 edition. I have followed the instructions, burned the cd, created a second 2GB bootable partition, copied all the cd content to the new partition, disabled the OS3.9 partition on the early startup screen, waited for the re-boot... Nothing happens, just some HD activity, then everything stops, black screen, power led on, that's all. I have not changed anything in the s/startup-sequence, since mine is a standard A1200PPC. I was wondering whether there is some RGB output at the 23pin video port of the Amiga, but I don't have any monitor or scart TV set to test, and, BTW, the Early startup screen and the OS3.9 installation are perfectly visible on the LCD screen via the BVision. Did I make any mistake? thanx in advance for any word from you experts regards S. PS, my site is www.oldfab.tk if you want to visit my Amiga moddings

You have to make few changes in startup-sequence to get it running. Have a quick look in the forum, you will find couple of helpful posts about that matter.

thanx I have seen, maybe I must change the set bootdevice "" line with the name of the partition I installed MorphOS into, which is 'IDH1' even if the previous line states this: ; Leave the var blank if you want to boot from the default boot partition!
unfortunately I don't have the A1200 here but in my garage which is 7Km far, plus tomorrow I have to travel for 1 week. I have to delay the testing :( regards S. PS, is it true that MorphOS has a 128MB limit? This means I have to test it without a 128MB simm?

| The CyberstormPPC hardware is limited to 128MB (that's probably why you heard about this very number) but MorphOS doesn't have such limitation. |

There is a section in the startup sequence which is commented quite well, if memory serves there is a setting for "reset level" which may need tweaking for the BPPC.
You may also want to try pressing a key when it hangs during booting - from memory, this sometimes caused the boot process to resume on my A4K/PPC setup (no longer have the PPC side so cannot test).

Rich

Also in the last line of s-s try to locate: module.com1 and change it to module.com1.idehack, that helped me.

Step 1. Sell the Blizzard, Bvision and the 1200 separately on ebay for crazy profits Step 2. Get an emac support by the latest MorphOS release and a license with the money you made Step 3. Get a cheap PC laptop also with the money you made so you can run Amisys and get your Amiga fix Step 4. Party with all the money left over.

Perhaps Acill's anwer is not what Fabrizio was expecting, but he is very very right: The hassle/satisfaction relation is completely opposite between Amiga/MorphOS 1.4 and MacMini/MorphOS 2.5.
But, from what I've seen in his web site, perhaps this guy wants it, precisely, the hard way! He makes me remember just how many of us here were some years ago: Doing amazing tricks to our custom computers, instead of buying new standard ones.
Bravissimo Fabrizio! |

Hi there Fab! Not exactly a MorphOS junkie myself but recently i discovered how good and stable it is with my Classic A1200 PPC! So, even though there are more experienced users than me, i could write down what worked for me after a lot of attempts to install Morphos PUP. Of course i made it happen by getting lots of help from other fellow amigans on amigaplanet.gr. I wouldn't like to take the credit: STEP 1: Prepare and format with SFS (in my case 1.279 for 3.x) the partition (in my case IDH3) you intend to use for PUP. If you have other OS's installed too then give to Morphos the lowest priority (in my case OS3.9 = Priority 3, OS4=priority 2 and MorphOS=priority 1) STEP 2: Copy all the installation cd's contents to the partition you prepared before STEP 3: Edit the Startup-Sequence (in my case IDH3:S/Startup-Sequence). The only thing you have to change is the line //set bootdevice ""// which will have to be changed according to your partition (in my case it is set bootdevice "bootdevice=IDH3" STEP 4: Last but not least in IDH3:Boot/Roms you have to rename Module.com1 to something else like Module.com1.original and then Module.com1.idehack to Module.com1 STEP 5: Turn off your miggy and then choose Morphos PUP from the Early Startup Menu. Hopefully you'll see the Morphos butterfly on your screen after a couple of screen flashing. Let us know.
In bocca al lupo! ;) |

Forgot to mention, don't use the system ed to edit the s-s - that might cause another problem.

hello, the Module.com1.idehack was correct, I have booted my PPA1200 into MorphOS but now I have few questions 1. why can't I snapshot the icons of the sys drawer so that I can see them always (the drawers and files don't have their .info, so I have to select 'show all files' from the window menu) ? 2. I would like to use my PCMCIA 3COM lan card, which works ok with 3.9 and 4.0 (same driver from aminet), is somewhere available a proper driver for MOS? thanx again |

so thanx I have downloaded the last link you have given me, which is beta-090322. since I am not yet connected to internet, I had to pass all the unzipped files to the Amiga via 720KB floppies, since I have no cdrom connected now (the ambient file, 1.5MB, I had to split it in 3 parts). so I have copied all the files to a new drawer called ambiet- inside the MOS partition, then joined the 3 ambient file parts, then double clicked on the install file. Nothing happens, so I guess I need to execute it from cli. since I don't yet know how to open a cli in MOS, I have pressed right Amiga + E keys and written 'execute idh1:ambient-/install. The installation has begun asking me a serie of question to which I have always answered Y-return I have though noticed that some files where not found, for example, those inside the catalogs, c, arexx drawers, and some other that I don't remember now. At the end of the installation, anyway I have manually copied all the files from the update into the proper drawers inside the idh1:morphos drawer. Then rebooted Now the desktop appears different, many more menu voices, a new icon 'mio Morphos' (I am located in italian) But I have also found that if I try to open mio morphos, the desktop hangs, even if I play around with the preferences. I think I will install it anew, anyway, if somebody has some more advices I will be thankful regards to all |

As far as I remember installation was grand with me, I had no issues with it. Probably problems with prefs is caused by that invalid installation, try again, meaby use snoopdos to see what is going on.

I know my answer wasnt the best advise to give, but in a way I was serious. I was lucky to have a coupe A3000 back in the day. I sold off my PPC one and got a PEgasus 2 when MOS first came out, Shortly after version 1.4 released I put my old 3000 in the closet and never used it as an Amiga again. If you know anyone at all with a Mac mini or emac you can use for a short time to test it out, you will be very satisfied and soon forget the Amiga. All the hardware hack you do so you can do more modern things are all done for you and the hassles go away.

Acil: very true. I've installed my MorphOS 1.4.5 when I already had MorphOS 2.4 on Mac Mini and i didn't play with the old version for a long time as the new one is just amazing. There is no point going backwards.

I am just testing it since I never did it before, even if I had a PPC Amiga almost 9 years ago. For what I have seen now, MOS seems to me better then OS4, but it's just fun, I don't think I'll never move from WinXP for my every day computing. So, one day surely I'll sell all, for the moment I enjoy the innovetion of MOS on my old machine anyway thanx to all |
