Hi Folks!

I recently had some luck and obtained an eMac for free (1,25Ghz model with 768Mb RAM and a 32Mb ATI card), so I immediately decided to install the latest MorphOS.

What a pleasant surprise! From an outsider (and complete newbie) perspective I am amazed at the OS speed and responsiveness, Ambient is really good and so much more advanced that I thought! So I am going to register my MorphOS copy pretty soon..

I have some questions though:

Sound does not seem to work, on the Sound and Audio preference panels there's a long list of configuration options (I assume these are drivers?), it was set on MacMini 16bit+ (I may be wrong) as default, but none seems to work. Do I have to tweak something manually?

I changed the desktop icons by right-clicking on them, show Information and dragging PNG icons on them, as a result the icons now have a Windows-like shortcut arrow on them, is there a way to get rid of this or is there a better way to change icons? Lastly, is there a way to change the "My MorphOS" icon on the desktop?

Sorry for so many questions, looking forward to any of your advices!

Thanks,
Joepillow

About audio, it was reported to be quite low for some people. Try increasing your speakers significantly just in case. Also check mixer settings just in case.

Ambient shows arrows by default for shortcuts, which you can disable by going to menu settings->ambient->icon display->"shortcut identifier". The arrow picture can't be changed atm, it's compiled in ambient.
My MorphOS icon can by changed by copying the icon you want as def_mymorphos.info in sys:prefs/presets/deficons/. You can also remove the my morphos icon if you don't want it (ambient -> misc -> display my morphos icon). You can also rename it if you don't like the "my morphos" name. :)

Thank you very much Feb! I tweaked everything now.

In fact now that I put every AHI units and to max volumes I can barely hear something so the speakers are working, problem is that it is still just a whisper, I'll figure it out somehow.

Best!

Does it make that poweron sound when starting the machine ? Currently MorphOS uses the default hardware volume that is preset by the Open Firmware and does not change it (yet). MorphOS itself just does software volume control so far.
That's basically due to the fact that eMac uses the same MorphOS audio driver as Mac mini which does not have extra mixer controls currently.
This will most likely be adjusted in a future update of MorphOS.

Thanks pega-1, yes my eMac does not make the power-on sound, so I assume I'd have to go inside Open Firmware by pressing Esc and fiddle with its settings. Will report the outcome! Cheers!

Solved! Went into Open Firmware then:

reset-nvram
reset-all

Chime sound came back, now sound is working on MorphOS, still quite low even with mixer at the max, but definitely audible now.

Thanks!
