Fabien "Fab" Coeurjoly has updated his MorphOS port of the Origyn Web Browser. This web browser is based on the powerful WebKit engine which is also used by Apple's Safari or Google's Chrome.
Version 1.3 is available in three editions, namely the full browser (owb-morphos-1.3.lha), a version without SVG support (owb-morphos-1.3-nosvg.lha) and "OWB Lite" which excludes support for SVG and for codepages other than UTF-8 and Latin-1. The two extra editions are primarily intented to be used on systems that feature only low amounts of memory (Efika).
System requirements:
MorphOS 2.x is strongly recommended but it can still work on a 1.4.x setup if a recent MUI snapshot (2007) is installed.
The developer made the following changes:
- Updated to OWB SVN r994.
- Network can now optionally run in a dedicated thread.
Just for information, CURL network backend has always been asynchronous, but some specific parts can unfortunately block depending on the network link (e.g dns resolution), hence the need for a dedicated thread.
- Improved CURL buffer management to cope more easily with higher download speeds.
- Added resume support to download manager.
- Display more information in download overwrite/resume requester (local/remote file dates and sizes).
- Added failure reason column in download manager 'Failed' tab.
- Added URL column in download manager.
- Added a gauge for each entry in download manager.
- Added a retry button for failed downloads.
- Download speed is now measured as an "instant" value (before, it was computed as an average since the download start).
- Added a confirmation requester if POST data is about to be resent
(should avoid duplicated messages on fora, for instance).
- Added content blocking based on 'adblockplus' (optional). See conf/blocked.prefs (it will be made configurable from settings/contextmenu later).
- Bookmark tree can now be shown as a side panel.
- Reworked refresh method (behaves better and faster with 2dlayers when moving windows over browser area).
- Added mimetype configuration: for each mimetype, "view", "download", "external command" and "ask" actions are available.
- Added configurable contextual menus for link, page and image objects, which can now be extended with user actions.
- Added session saving/restoration (optional). F9 and F10 keys also respectively allow to manually select a session file to restore from/save to.
- Added "Load in New Background Tab" contextmenu item (which was already available before by pressing MMB).
- Added HTML (embedded) error reporting mode. Requester and HTML modes can be selected from settings.
- Quit requester is now optional.
- Added "Paste to URL" menu entry.
- More work on PDF export (saves the whole site into a page-based document, with or without backgrounds depending on settings).
- Added drag'n'drop support to browser window (each dropped file creates a new tab).
- Added mailto: support (through OpenURL).
- Added javascript: scheme support from URL string.
- Space key now also scrolls page down.
- New bookmark entries are also added to pulldown menu by default.
- asyncio.library is now used for file input/output.
- Added BACKGROUND switch to "Open" ARexx command (only relevant when used with NEWPAGE).
- Fixed SAVEURL ARexx command 'quiet' mode.
- Removed a 256 characters limit with bookmark entries.
- Changed widgets default colours to give more contrast.
- Added htm/php extensions for local browsing.
- Fixed an issue with duplicated entries in network window when using several windows.
- Fixed an issue with file upload (full path could be sent instead of just the file name).
- Moved history.db and cookieCollection.txt to conf/ directory (move your old ones there, sorry for that :)).

OWB is now really powerful and fast (even on Efika) browser. Fab for president, and thanks to SandLabs for writing the engine.

Thanks Fab, very nice improvements here (AdBlock :)).
Perhaps a few corrections could be made to the announcement for the next release; Orygin in the title and disk space requirements for the uncompressed binary.

Fab, the Fabulous! As always, big thanks for all your hard work.
OWB 1.3 works like a charm on my Efika.

| Fabien extraordinaire! I also celebrate that his Origyn version has more and more "Amiga" code on each release. |

.....but...... You read in my mind?!?!? Using IBrowse, I was just thinking about "mime" and "resume download" for Orygin web Browser (though I guessed something was developping... eh eh eh...). Marveilleuse, Fab! Thanks & thanks & thanks!!!
P.S: I was playing with mime and thinking about to set a "mime sound". For examplef when you are using Facebook and a msg arrive, a sound is played. But OWB tries to save it since it cannot play it. I thought to use the internal "PlaySound" I found in the Ambient MimeTypes. Is that possible? |

If facebook sends a correct mimetype for that sound file, it should be possible yes. I can't test, but let's say it could be something like:
mimetype audio/* action: External viewer: rx argument: "address AMBIENT; 'playsound %f'"
I didn't test, so it would have to be checked anyway. :)
Note that it would trigger that action for any clicked audio/* file (if no particular audio/something is matched first), which is not necessarily what you want (there's also a media api in owb to deal with that kind of stuff, but it's not ported yet).
Your choice anyway. :)

Thanks Fab! It's almost I did it! but...... I don't know if this is a OWB problem or whatelse. I used to save my fast-link buttons config, as I experimented some loss of data (configuration file disappeared). Now I turned on Peg and noticed OWB icon, on the launch panel, is disappeared!!!!! Opened Applications folder and... mistery the whole OWB directory is missed!!!! Has anyone had this kind of problem?!? I don't think that OWB is a data-killer or a suicide-program. ?????? My link.... oh, no! |

| That's uncool, but i somewhat doubt it's directly caused by OWB, though. Likely some unfortunate filesystem issue. |

luky,
heh, thanks for correcting the poster there, then. Having an OWB OS4 screenshot to illustrate it was kinda surprising. :) |

| I'd be curious to see how 'fast' it runs on a 1200/4000, actually. If anyone has such as video, give a link, please. :) |

Discovered the problem: disk not validate. En error on a track of the hd made all that. I tried to copy the OWB folder to another partition and it wasn't possible due to this. So I made a back up, reformatted and copyed my file again. All is going. No OWB fault then. Thanks!!! |
