97% of the videos I try on Youtoob seem to be flash not html5, unfortunatly

Yes, there aren't that many videos available as HTML5 yet, in youtube. We'll see how well HTML5 standard is accepted in the next months/years, but at least youtube/google, dailymotion and a couple others push it.

Another great update, thanks Fab! But I will still be moaning about form autofilling ;-)

Fantastic release. HTML5 a/v support is a great feature :-)

Just a little reminder of a request of mine:

It's not that urgent, though ;-)

Not exactly the same, but inspector window can show a great amount of information on the page (including last modified date and things like that).

Thanks FAB for you good work.
Goodnight Flash. Not even with Firefox you are able to play Youtube HTML5 due to missing codecs.

Starting from this version, i am now even able to open this site:
http://www.i-have-a-dreambox.com/ which was impossible before with OWB.

Any chance to port/integrate greasemonkey or another way to use the scripts in the future?
Then i really wont miss firefox/chrome anymore.
What a great work you did!

Register for a you tube account and turn on the html5 beta engine for your account. Just about everything I look at now that I have done it is in HTML5.

There might be a severe mem leak (please) confirm. I had 18 taps up, 8 of which were google docs, and I doa have a gig ram on the mini, but it managed to such it down a meg at a time like every 2 secs or so to 42megs at which time it locked the sys up. Changing to different taps did raise the mem back up, but not far enough. This happens regardless if I was typing or not. For comparison, it didn't do this with 1.6.1, as I was using that one on friday prior to 1.7 release. I am looking at 473...472... now, and just started with a reboot with saves tabs., and just to open this comment. back to 490..488...
one other note streaming a shoutcast on mplayer, but shoud be irrevalent.closing now at 470..meg ram466..

I have 3 google docs opened, and i don't notice such an alarming memleak (though i can see it decreasing, but much less rapidly). But anyway, even if there is a leak, it would be a generic thing introduced in a later webkit revision.

After checking, googledoc has a "funny" behaviour when just moving mouse in document area, as if it cached something. But it doesn't go below a certain amount (40MB "leaked" at most), and then it slowly gives back that memory, or rapidly if going to some other page and loading something. Weird stuff, but it's not something i control, and it's not the effect you notice anyway.

Also, i don't see how it could lock the system just because it can't allocate memory. In that case it would show an out of memory requester (or possibly just meditate, if it happens in some javascript code).

weird ..yea, It's down to 264 now, since last post. It decreases faster than it replenishes.
As I see it, I would have to close down the tabs. 258..
I'll see if It gets that low again to 40meg, doing the same stuff.

Thanks Fab 250..

ok. got it down to 21megs and no locks ups, instead this time no requestors, it just disallowed mem intensive tabs to be viewed, just the docs. After a reboot got back 800+ megs, but lost 300 on the browser load and rests on 520 with cycle repeating. .........

This endless cycle is definitely not reproducible here (except for what i said). But try providing some document where it happens (unless blank document also triggers it).

Sorry I can't give much more info, other that what I said, accessing docs, typing, editing, causes memory to drop. browsing to other tabbed docs, or tabs replenishes it a bit, but it eventually will get down to 100+ megs or so . Well who needs 18 tabs right? yea but I like them available. On a positive note, no need to switch between owb/firefox spoofs on google docs/mail.
This disclaimer pops up on google docs lately:
(We will be phasing out support for your browser soon. ? Learn more ? Dismiss)
Should we be concerned?

A question about Google Docs: When you click 'upload' to get some files to Google, it opens another page with a small Flash uploader that I can't get to work. Any ideas about this?

This is bad luck. GoogleDocs uses Flash if it's available for this upload button, but unfortunately, this flash script requires flash10 or so, which swfdec doesn't support. So the only way is to disable flash if you need it. I'll probably implement some per-site plugin enabler/disabler later.

Here you go. But that's just 36 frames of animation in 32-bit png format. Now it's up to Fab to implement it :)

I'd like to know if the size is correct (maybe bigger would look better - more details). Also, if you want it as an anim-gif or whatever - any feedback is welcome.

Edit: removed the link to avoid confusion. The proper transferanim can be found a few posts later.

Hey, I've been the first to download it, according to the hoster.

By the way, Fab, you're the greatest! Very impressive progress... Now, let's see if it's not all politics from Adobe, and finally HTML5 for video gets widely used. It's simply more sensible.

Thanks, but you can implement it yourself right now, actually. OWB will use resource/transferanim.png and resource/transferanim_tab.png if they are found.
The expected layout is horizontal, with square frames. So you can just place all your frames horizontally and it will work. There's no size limit.

Allright Fab! OWB is getting better and faster. It seems like pages render faster/better in the new version, and being able to have Youtube in HTML 5 is really cool.

Just copy the complete transferanim.png in resource (will take effect next time you'll start OWB). That transferanim topic is explained somewhere in the readme, btw. :)

About your bad request, no idea. I have an equally long string for some cookie, and it works. Just in case you didn't do it, delete conf/cookiecollection.db for this new version (that was also in the readme :)).

Be sure that you get the proper transferanim file - and by saying "proper" I mean the single transferanim.png image that's (in my case) 900x25 px in size. Then just copy it to /resource and voila!

I just tried it again, its strange.
Downloading the merlin musicplayer ipk from the windows box and letting ambit
showing the filetypes, it says:

Debian Software Package Archive.

Downloading the same file from OWB and lett Ambiet show the filetypes,
i get gnu zip compressed file, erm....

Which i have to uncompress, so that it works.

Please note:

"I first made the .ipk format equivalent to .deb, (but renamed to avoid frustration and confusion). However, I recently changed it to be a tar.gz file rather than an ar archive so that ar would not have to be installed to use ipkg. (But with 0.99 we changed it back because gzipping compressed data is a waste of CPU and battery)."

"If you wish to view a .ipk file using WinZip, you can rename it (or copy it) as ....ipk.tar.gz, and then carefully open the contents."

I realized that text boxes cannot be dragged to become longer anymore. You can only extend their width but not their height. With earlier versions of OWB this worked. Has this changed for OWB itself or only for Fab's newer version(s)?

EDIT: It also produces a CR for the text you enter right at the position of the right border. When you move the right border, you will get the CR at another position. I am sure that with older versions all the text was just one single paragraph as long as you did not hit return key yourself.

It hasn't changed. Textareas can still be resized in both directions (like the one i'm typing in right now), unless the layout sets some constraint.

Hi,

Just downloaded 1.7, love the HTML 5 support. Just noticed that flashless no longer seems to work on the standard Youtube site, is this a clash with the HTML5 support? or have they changed something? Flashless still works fine on the mp3's on Amazon so I know it is setup ok.

Cheers

I don't think the HTML5 support would have an influence on that, even if i don't know what flashless relies on. But at least, getvideo isn't affected, so flashless shouldn't either.

Right. It really depends on the website itself. I thought it was a general browser feature. Sadly not, but now I know.

Hello Fab

is it possible to use not-antialiased fonts with OWB 1.7?

I'm asking because on Classic it crawls with MosNET (theres a heavy load network related)

Thanks!

Disabling antialias on truetype fonts will give ugly results with cairo/fontconfig, bitmap fonts have to be used for that. It's possible by changing font directory (in conf/font/font.conf) to a directory where you would only use pcf fonts (these are the bitmap fonts used on linux). You could try the helvR8.pcf or so, it's not looking too bad.

That said, i don't see the relation with mosnet and network cpu load.

If you find it unusable, then netsurf or OWB SDL ports are even much much worse. :)

I'm not sure what you mean, but if the OS4 port is usable, then so is mine since it's faster (at least on Peg2). Since you said something about network, maybe use something else than MosNet.

probably is due some issue between MosNETand the new network thread, recently added.

i.e. Sputnik is much faster in the same enviroment.

Anyway FAB .... is on a 200 MHZ machine afterall :-)
